LIST: Back-to-school events, giveaways, supply drives around metro Baton Rouge (2024)

It’s almost time for kids to head back to school.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The start of the 2024-2025 school year is approaching.

In an effort to equip students with the tools they need, numerous back-to-school giveaways and supply drives will take place in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas.

Below is an updated list of events.

DISTRICT 6 BACK 2 SCHOOL GIVEAWAY

On Saturday, July 27, 2024, Metro Councilman Cleve Dunn, Jr. will host the Back 2 School Giveaway from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. It will take place at 9048 Airline Highway.

ST. JAMES PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE BACK TO SCHOOL GIVEAWAY

On Saturday, July 27, 2024, the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a back to school giveaway from 9 a.m. until noon. It’s happening at the East Bank-Gramercy Main Street Park Pavilion. The address is 111 E. Main Street in Gramercy, La. It’s for Pre-K through 12th grade. The child must be in attendance to receive supplies. First come, first served.

BACK 2 SCHOOL GIVEAWAY

On Saturday, July 27, 2024, CareSouth Medical and Dental will host its 2024 Back 2 School Giveaway. It’s happening from 9 a.m. until noon at 3140 Florida Street in Baton Rouge, La. The event is a drive-thru giveaway. A parent/guardian must be present with the child. One bag will be given to each child.

BACK 2 SCHOOL GIVEAWAY

On Saturday, July 27, 2024, New Ark Baptist Church will host its 2024 Back 2 School Giveaway. It’s happening from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 1344 Tarrace Street in Baton Rouge, La. The event will have face painting, nail painting, free food and filled backpacks. Mayor Sharon Weston Broome will also be a special guest, the church announced.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL EXPO

On Saturday, July 27, 2024, Project 70805 is hosting its 9th annual Back-to-School Expo to help give families in north Baton Rouge a smooth start to the upcoming school year. The event is happening from 10 a.m. until noon at Scotlandville Magnet High School, which is located at 9870 Scotland Avenue in Baton Rouge. There will be free backpacks and school supplies, as well as health screenings and community resources.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL BASH

On Saturday, July 27, 2024, the Crusade Christian Center will host their Back-to-School Bash. The event is happening from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Nairn Drive Park, which is located at 2900 Valley Street in Baton Rouge. They will be giving away free school supplies and bikes. There will also be food, games, face painting, and snowballs. The event is first come, first serve, and the student must be present.

YES! YOUTH ENRICHMENT SUMMER 2024

On Saturday, July 27, 2024, Mirror of Grace Outreach is hosting its Yes! Youth Enrichment Summer 2024 event. This back-to-school community event starts at 10 a.m. at the Boom Box, which is located at 6537 Harry Drive in Baton Rouge. Each child will receive a backpack filled with essential school supplies. There will be refreshments, snacks, games, and more.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL ATHLETE MEET & GREET

On Saturday, July 24, 2024, Tanger Outlets Gonzales is kicking off the start of the school season with its Back-to-School Athlete Meet and Greet. The event is happening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. in front of Southern Marsh, which is located at 2100 Steven B. Tanger St. in Gonzales. Community members will be able to meet, get autographs and take photos with athlete Trey’Dez Green, of Jackson, La.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL DRIVE AND COMMUNITY CAREER FAIR

On Sunday, July 28, 2024, BlacU Collective will host its Back-to-School Drive and Community Career Fair from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Baton Rouge Community College. The free event is happening in the BRCC Magnolia Performing Arts Theatre, located at 201 Community College Dr., Baton Rouge. Backpacks and school supplies will be giveaway, and there will be additional giveaways, musical performances, and career resources. It is open to all of the greater Baton Rouge area. The child has to be present.

SCHOOL SUPPLY GIVEAWAY

On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, the office of Constable Terrica Williams is hosting its annual School Supply Giveaway to provide essential school supplies and promote community safety through education. The event is happening from 10 a.m. until noon at the LUNA local 99 Laborers Union Hall, which is located at 1233 Government Street in Baton Rouge. Children who attend the event will receive free backpacks filled with notebooks, paper, ink pens, and other basic school supplies. There will also be refreshments.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL BASH

On Friday, August 2, 2024, St. Helena Sheriff’s Department and the 21st JDC Juvenile Services are hosting the Back-to-School Bash at Forrest Festival Park in Greensburg. The event is happening from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL DRIVE THRU GIVEAWAY

On Saturday, August 3, 2024, Happi Llandiers and the Backpack Project will host a drive-thru supply giveaway. It will take place from 7:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. at West Feliciana Middle School. The address is 9559 Bains Road in St. Francisville. Students must be present in the vehicle to receive supplies. Supplies are for residents of West Feliciana only. ID will be required.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL OUTREACH EVENT

On Saturday, August 3, Rosemound Baptist Church will host a back-to-school outreach event from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The address is 11188 Old Laurel Hill Road in St. Francisville, La. There will be free haircuts, a clothes closet, food, drinks and more.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL GIVEAWAY

On Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024, the City of Baker School System is hosting a back-to-school giveaway from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The event is happening at the City of Baker School Board Office, located at 14750 Plank Road, Baker.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL GIVEAWAY

On Saturday, August 3, 2024, Charity Christian Center Church is hosting its annual Back-to-School Giveaway from 9 a.m. until noon at 871 O’Neal Lane in Baton Rouge. Free reading books, sneakers, backpacks, school supplies, and school uniforms will be given away while supplies last. There will also be free health information, food, and games.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL BASH

On Saturday, August 3, 2024, the Back-to-School Bash will take place at the Baker Municipal Center from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The address is 3325 Groom Road. City of Baker Schools students must be present. There will be free school supplies, backpacks, food, games, vendors and more.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL GIVEAWAY

On Saturday, August 3, 2024, Chuck & Sons LLC is hosting its Back-to-School Giveaway at Bayou Braces. Free school supplies and haircuts will be given away from noon until 4 p.m. while supplies lasts at 8482 Perkins Road in Baton Rouge. There will also be food, games, face painting, and a bounce house.

BACK 2 SCHOOL BASH 2024

On Saturday, Aug. 3, the East Baton Rouge Parish School System is hosting Back 2 School Bash 2024 to celebrate the commencement of the new academic year. The event is happening from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Raising Cane’s River Center, which is located at 275 S. River Road in Baton Rouge. Students, parents, teachers, and the community are invited to attend this family-friendly event, which includes a variety of activities like interactive booths, educational resources, entertainment, and more.

ASSESS THE NEED SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE

On Saturday, Aug. 3, Sunday, Aug. 4, Saturday, Aug. 10, and Sunday, Aug. 11, Livingston Parish Assessor Jeff Taylor is collecting school supplies as part of the annual Assess the Need School Supply Drive to benefit children in need in the Livingston Parish School System. School supplies can be donated from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on those weekends outside Cain’s Family Supermarkets (Albany, Livingston, and Springfield); Carter’s Supermarkets (Hatchell Lane in Denham Springs, Vincent Road in Denham Springs, and Walker), Oak Point Fresh Market in Watson; Village Market in Port Vincent; Diversion Market in Head of Island; and Whitehall Grocery in Maurepas.

On Saturday, Aug. 17, Mission Heart is hosting its annual Back-to-School Bash. The event is happening from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. There will be food, games, and more.
